The purpose of deactivating the hydrogenation catalyst is to keep the bed temperature below 100°C, and to use appropriate amounts of air to burn off the FeS in the catalyst bed, thereby preventing spontaneous combustion of FeS upon opening the reactor after shutdown. Generally, hydrogenation reactors that are shut down do not require maintenance; it is recommended that the catalysts not be passivated, and protection can be provided by filling them with nitrogen.

Generally, passivation is required when the catalyst’s performance deteriorates and it needs to be replaced; in most cases, filling it with nitrogen for protection is sufficient, and the reasons for this have been explained above.

For dressing change, it’s pre-vulcanization, right? Passivation is carried out after shutting down the operation!
