The handover of multiple units in Phase I of the 20,000-ton/year coke oven coal-to-hydrogen project at Shanxi Pengwan Hydrogen Port has been completed; full completion is imminent. Author/Source: Gasification Industry News Date: April 18, 2022 Views: 2 Recently, a handover ceremony for the 35 kV substation and the circulating water treatment facility area was held for the 20,000-ton/year coke oven coal-to-hydrogen project at Shanxi Pengwan Hydrogen Port, which is being constructed by the Central Plains Branch of China Chemical Engineering Ninth Construction Co., Ltd. This marks the beginning of the handover process for multiple units within the project, bringing it one step closer to full completion! As a landmark project under Shanxi’s action plan for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality, the Pengwan Hydrogen Port coal-to-hydrogen project is located within the Pengfei Pengwan Hydrogen Port Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park in Xiaoyi City, Shanxi Province. The main component of this project is the construction of a hydrogen production facility with a designed capacity of 20,000 tons per year. Once operational, this facility will help **reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the transition to green energy. Project Overview: The 20,000-ton/year hydrogen production project from coke oven gas at Shanxi Pengwan Hydrogen Port primarily utilizes coke oven gas generated by the gas boilers and tube furnaces following the commissioning of the dry quenching systems at Pengfei Coke Plant and Xinyu Coke Plant as raw material for producing high-purity hydrogen. The product is used in the group’s ammonia synthesis plants, with any excess hydrogen sold as commercial hydrogen. The Pengwan Hydrogen Port 20,000 tons/year coke oven gas hydrogen production project is the first phase of the hydrogen production facility with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons that Pengfei Group plans to build. The total value of the general contract is 295 million yuan, and the design was carried out by Saiding Engineering Company. The overall plan for the project consists of three functional areas: hydrogen production, storage and transportation, and hydrogen energy applications. The main scope of the project involves constructing a coke gas hydrogen production facility with a designed capacity of 20,000 tons per year, with a total investment of 20 billion yuan. Once completed and put into operation, this project will play a significant role in promoting the local economic and social development as well as the transformation and upgrading of industries. The Pengwan Hydrogen Port Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park project has an investment scale of 10 billion yuan. It is a hydrogen energy comprehensive utilization industrial park project jointly developed by Pengfei Group and the American Gulf Environmental Systems Company. The designed production capacity is 200,000 tons of hydrogen per year, with construction carried out in three phases. The hydrogen production method relies primarily on coke oven gas, with coal-based hydrogen production serving as a supplementary method. The park is planned to integrate hydrogen production, storage, refueling, transportation, as well as downstream industries and research and development, aiming to become a influential hydrogen energy industry demonstration base in Shanxi Province and across the country. The main products of this project are gaseous hydrogen and “organic liquid hydrogen” using methylcyclohexane as a carrier, which can be widely applied in fields such as oil refining, the metallurgical industry, and hydrogen fuel vehicles.
