Shanxi to Build New Coal Chemical Projects Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry 114 Forum Date: 11-12-2021 Clicks: 15 Recently, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment officially approved the \"Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction sowie the Comprehensive Utilization of Coke Oven Gas Project of Changjin Yuan Coking Co., Ltd. under Shanxi Nanyao Group\" (Approval Letter No. 411). Changjin Yuan Coking Co., Ltd., part of Shanxi Nanyao Group, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the group. It primarily operates a coking plant with an annual capacity of 1.3 million tons, a methanol plant with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons, and a coal tar hydrogenation plant with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons. The raw material gas used in the company’s current 200,000 t/a methanol production facility and 200,000 t/a coal tar hydrogenation facility comes from two sources: the residual gas generated by the company’s 1.3 million t/a coking project, and the coke oven gas resulting from the 600,000 t/a coking projects operated by Nancun Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. in the suburbs of Changzhi City (hereinafter referred to as Nancun Coking), as well as Jinxin Coal Coke Co., Ltd. in Changzhi City (hereinafter referred to as Jinxin Coal Coke). In response to the requirements from **, provincial, and municipal authorities to reduce excess coking capacity, Document No. 7 [2020] issued by the Longcoke Capacity Reduction Task Force included both the Nancun Coking and Jinxin Coal-Coking plants, with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year each, in the list of plants to be shut down. These plants were required to cease operations by October 2020. In accordance with **’s requirements, both coking plants stopped production and emptied their coke ovens by October 31, 2020; they are currently under demolition. Their capacity has been replaced by the 2.05 million-ton coking project operated by Shanxi Jinye Coking Co., Ltd. To ensure the smooth operation of the entire project, the company has decided to build the \"Shanxi Nanyao Group Changjin Yuan Coking Co., Ltd. Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction and Comprehensive Utilization Project\" within the industrial park, while maintaining the existing production capacity of 200,000 tons per year of methanol. This project is intended to supply the gas needed to compensate for the shortage resulting from the shutdown of two coking plants with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year each. It also aims to extend the industrial chain by utilizing the carbon source produced by gasifiers; the 200,000 tons per year of methanol produced will serve as an intermediate product, which will be used to manufacture 400,000 tons per year of acetic acid and 100 million Nm3 per year of hydrogen.
