On May 11, a product evaluation meeting and launch event for the circulation liquid pump (high-pressure chemical shielded pump) developed by Chengda Company in collaboration with Dongfang Electric Corporation and Xinjiang Lanshan Tunhe Energy Co., Ltd., was held simultaneously via video link in Deyang, Sichuan, and Beijing. Huang Li, President of the China General Machinery Industry Association, and Sui Yongbin, Honorary President, jointly presided over the event. The experts present gave high praise to the circulation liquid pump for BDO plants and unanimously approved its appraisal, stating that it possesses complete independent intellectual property rights and that its technical performance meets international advanced standards; they recommended its widespread adoption. This marks the successful localization of the circulation pump for BDO plants, breaking the long-term monopoly held by foreign companies in this field. BDO is an important raw material in the organic chemical and fine chemical industries; BDO and its derivatives are widely used in areas such as biodegradable plastics, spandex, and polyurethanes. In January 2020, with the approval of the State Council, the **Commission for Development and Reform and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued the \"Opinions on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic Pollution\" (Fa Gai Huan Zi [2020] No. 80), which outlined comprehensive measures to enhance the control of plastic pollution. Subsequently, various regions successively introduced and implemented strict plastic restrictions. 2021 marked the beginning of the era for biodegradable plastics, and demand for BDO, an intermediate product used in the production of such plastics, saw explosive growth. The circulating liquid pump for BDO plants is a key piece of equipment in BDO production lines. It operates at a pressure of 33.5 MPa, with the temperature of the fluid it transports being 125°C. The development of such pumps involves significant technical challenges, and for a long time they have been monopolized by a few foreign companies. Their high cost, long delivery times, and inadequate maintenance services make them bottlenecks in China’s BDO industry; as a result, domestic chemical companies have a strong desire to develop locally produced versions of these pumps. Since participating in the design of China’s first BDO plant in 2003, Chengda Company has served over a dozen clients with more than 20 such plants, boasting extensive experience in engineering projects related to circulation pumps for BDO plants. In 2019, Chengda Company took the lead in jointly developing a circulating liquid pump for BDO plants with Dongfang Electric and Lanshan Tunhe. In light of the characteristics of the process system and the problems encountered during the long-term use of imported equipment, more than 10 development topics and target objectives were established, with the nuclear power and military industry quality assurance systems being implemented. Since its deployment in the BDO unit of Lanshan Tunhe Phase II on April 8, 2021, the prototype has been operating stably and efficiently; its performance far exceeds that of the imported pump sets in use during the same period, thus meeting the intended objectives. The promotion and application of this device will surely contribute to the rapid development of China’s BDO industry at present. The successful development of the circulation liquid pump for BDO plants is yet another achievement resulting from collaborative efforts among industry, academia, research institutions, and enterprises. Chengda Company will continue to focus on the core technologies in this industry, strive to master key technologies, and participate in the research and development as well as application of more critical equipment that are essential for progress.
