After nearly 3 months of intensive testing, the coal grinding and slurry production unit of Zhenhai Refining & Chemical’s new coal-coke hydrogen production unit began to produce slurry on a regular basis on January 21, generating qualified coal slurry. This marks the successful completion of the testing phase for this unit, representing a key step forward in the commissioning of the entire facility. On December 28, 2018, the coal-coke hydrogen production unit at Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. was successfully commissioned. The unit is capable of producing 120,000 standard cubic meters of hydrogen per hour; its operation will further optimize the hydrogen balance at Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. Coal grinding and slurry preparation is a critical step in the commissioning of coal-to-hydrogen production facilities; the ratio of the coal slurry and the quality of the resulting slurry directly affect the hydrogen production efficiency of the misting units and gasification units after feeding the slurry into the system. As this was the first time coal grinding equipment was being used, the startup team faced difficulties such as a lack of operational experience and high challenges in commissioning during the initial testing phase. Based on in-depth studies of the commissioning experiences of similar units at sister companies such as Jiujiang and Maoming, the Chemical Department of Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. formulated a reasonable trial operation plan. Through the joint efforts of all personnel at the facility, tests were carried out on the coal grinder interlocks, as well as trials at no load, 50% load, and 90% load. The issues related to the grinder interlocks, problems with the lubricating oil return system, and coal slurry mixing ratios were resolved, ensuring the successful completion of the commissioning process for the coal grinding and slurry preparation unit.
