The coal-to-hydrogen production facility at Shandong Qinghe Chemical Industry was put into operation / Source: Sinochem News Network, Date: 2020-07-07, Clicks: 6. On July 1, reporters learned from Shandong Qinghe Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. (formerly Shandong Jincheng Chemical Technology Co., Ltd.) that the company’s 60,000 Nm3/h coal-to-hydrogen production facility was successfully brought online in just one attempt, and has been operating at full capacity for 15 days now. On June 2, the gasifier of this coal-to-hydrogen plant was successfully ignited for the first time; after 84 hours of drying, it was confirmed that all conditions for operation were met, and on June 10 the gasifier was successfully fed with material for the first time. Following 4 days of comprehensive testing, qualified hydrogen was produced on the afternoon of June 14. After further optimization and adjustments, all process parameters met the design specifications, satisfying the requirements for normal operation. The qualified hydrogen was integrated into the plant’s hydrogen pipeline network on the 15th, marking the successful commissioning of the entire coal-to-hydrogen facility in one go. The coal-to-hydrogen plant was fully designed in terms of construction drawings by Anhui Huadong Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Huaxi Chemical Technology Co., Ltd.), and it employs advanced domestic processes for water-coal slurry gasification, sulfur-resistant adiabatic shift, low-temperature methanol washing, and methanation purification. Among them, the process packages for the shift and methanation units were independently developed and designed by East China Chemical Company. The shift technology employs a Co-Mo-based sulfur-resistant shift process, with catalysts that exhibit excellent resistance to sulfur poisoning, and there is no upper limit on the total sulfur content. Methanation is carried out using a \"one-pass\" process, which results in lower energy consumption, eliminates the need for a recycle compressor, and thus helps to reduce investment costs. The gasification unit of this facility has been upgraded to use the syngas and steam co-generation gasifier recently developed by Tsinghua University, namely the third-generation Jinhua furnace, and the gasification and slag-water treatment units have been redesigned. The third-generation Jinhua furnace uses coal water slurry as the feed material, and it can also recover high-pressure steam; it is suitable for the gasification of coal with a high ash fusion point and coal water slurry at low concentrations.
