Mid-term inspection of 4,000-ton-class water-coal slurry gasification technology demonstration unit Author/Source: Compiled and published by China Chemical Industry News and Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Technology Network Date: May 6, 2019 Clicks: 37 On April 24, the Office of the Key Project on Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal and New Energy-saving Technologies under the High-tech Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology organized experts to conduct a mid-term inspection of the development and demonstration project for large-scale water-coal slurry gasification technology in Baotou, Inner Mongolia. The expert group conducted an on-site inspection of Rongxin Chemical’s demonstration facility for water-coal slurry gasification technology capable of processing 4,000 tons of coal per day, and determined that the level of completion for the mid-term review was “basically completed”. It is reported that the project’s target is to achieve a daily coal feeding rate of 4,000 tons per multi-nozzle system, and a daily coal feeding rate of 2,000 tons per Jinhua furnace using waste boilers. The project will build the world’s largest quenching-process gasifier (multi-nozzle, 4,000-ton class) and the world’s largest energy-saving and environmentally friendly semi-reactor process gasifier (Jinhua Reactor 4.0, 2,000-ton class). Meng Xiangjun, the chief engineer in charge of Yankuang Group, the lead entity for this project, said that the project has already achieved 7 interim results. First, new types of refractory materials for gasifiers were developed; second, research was conducted on the radiation properties of fly ash; third, a testing platform for the viscosity-temperature characteristics of coal ash slags under high-temperature steam conditions was established; fourth, a coupled reaction network model for the gasification process based on coal quality was initially developed; fifth, the process package for an industrial demonstration unit using multi-nozzle opposed-type water-coal slurry gasification technology with a capacity of 4,000 tons of coal per day was prepared; sixth, the process package for an industrial demonstration unit using waste boiler quenching-type water-coal slurry gasification technology with a capacity of 2,000 tons of coal per day was developed; seventh, the installation of the main equipment for the multi-nozzle opposed-type water-coal slurry gasifier and related systems with a capacity of 4,000 tons of coal per day was completed. “In technological innovation, there is no best – only better. For multi-nozzle water-coal slurry gasification units, the daily coal input is increasing from around 3,000 tons to 4,000 tons; for Jinhua furnaces, the daily coal input, including that from waste boilers, is rising from around 1,500 tons to 3,000 tons. This is not simply a matter of scaling up – technological innovation and incremental improvements are crucial. The goal is to enable these units to operate more safely over longer periods of time, thereby generating better benefits for enterprises. ”Chen Shuoyi, director of the High-Tech Research and Development Center at the Ministry of Science and Technology, said. Yankuang, in collaboration with East China University of Science and Technology, and Yangquan Coal, in partnership with Tsinghua University, have both blazed a successful path for industry-university-research cooperation in the field of water-coal slurry gasification in China, making significant contributions to the localization and scaling up of coal gasification technology in the country.
