Recently, the 10-kilovolt substation at Unit 314 of the air separation plant in the 300,000-ton-per-year coal-based ethylene glycol production project of Sinochem (Inner Mongolia) New Materials Co., Ltd., which is under the general contract of Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Donghua Technology”), was successfully powered up for the first time. This marks the official transition of the project from the construction phase to the testing and commissioning phase, laying a solid foundation for the completion of mechanical installations and the project’s operation by the end of the year. The 314 air separation substation is equipped with two 10-kilovolt feeders, coming from two busbars of the 301 main substation. It houses 5 oil-immersed transformers, 26 high-voltage cabinets, and 33 low-voltage cabinets. The air separation substation supplies power to the 215 air compression station as well as the boiler circulation water system. As the first lower-level high-voltage substation to achieve successful power supply, this success provides a solid guarantee for the calibration of instruments and valves as well as for the water used in boilers. Recently, the lifting of the large-scale equipment, namely the atmospheric pressure tower C-49003, for the dimethyl oxalate technical upgrade phase of this project officially began. The coal-based ethylene glycol restart project of Zhonghua Chemical (Inner Mongolia) New Materials Co., Ltd. is located in Lubei Town, Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia. The total planned land area is 788,600 square meters, with a building area of 250,000 square meters. The project development follows the principles of a higher-level industrial structure, lower carbon energy consumption, and circular resource utilization, with the goal of becoming a well-known coal chemical industry hub in China within 10 years. The project is EPC-general contracted by Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. The ethylene glycol production process utilizes a high-chemical synthesis gas method, while the gasification technology employs the Corning dry powder gasification process. The first phase of the project involves the construction of 1 set of internal compression air separation unit with a capacity of 52,000 Nm3/h, 1 coal-to-hydrogen gasification unit with a capacity of 110,000 Nm3/h (comprising two pulverized coal pressurized gasification furnaces and gas purification equipment), 1 ethylene glycol production plant with an annual output of 300,000 tons, 1 thermoelectric power plant (comprising 4 circulating fluidized bed steam boilers with a capacity of 280 tons/hour each + 2 steam turbine generators with a capacity of 25 MW each), 1 wastewater treatment plant, 1 dedicated railway line, as well as various supporting utility facilities.
