It has been learned recently that since 2018, Shenmu Coal Chemical Industry has been focusing on the development of these three key projects: the 600,000 tons per year project for the comprehensive utilization of pulverized coal carried out by Tianyuan Company, the 120,000 tons per year project for the production of carbon materials from medium- and low-temperature coal tar, and the 500,000 tons per year project for the production of naphthenic oils carried out by Fuyou Company. All of these projects are advancing steadily. It is understood that in May 2019, Tianyuan Company’s 120,000-ton carbon materials project officially entered the construction phase, while the 600,000 tons per year project for the comprehensive utilization of coal dust has completed its commissioning trials and entered the trial production stage. On June 15, the construction of the 500,000 tons per year naphthenic oil production facility at Shenmu Coal Chemical Fuyou Company was completed with the topping out of the power chimney; the project is progressing smoothly and is expected to be mechanically completed by the end of the year. Tianyuan Company’s 600,000 tons per year facility for the comprehensive utilization of coal powder represents a shift away from the traditional technology that relies on lump coal as raw material; by using coal powder instead, it expands the raw material market and reduces production costs, which is of great significance for exploring further processing of coal. Shaanxi had previously had no needle coke industry. Building on its possession of the first set of facilities in China for producing asphalt coke from medium- and low-temperature coal tar, Tianyuan is utilizing its existing delayed coking units to manufacture primary products of asphalt coke. It is also carrying out a research and development project aimed at producing 120,000 tons of carbon materials per year, with the goal of creating new types of needle coke. The implementation of these three key projects is of great strategic significance for Shenmu Coal Chemical Industry to extend its industrial chain in the field of comprehensive utilization of coal based on different quality levels, to maximize the value of coal, to lead the development of the industry, and to advance the company’s strategy of achieving high-quality development through technological innovation.
