Construction begins on the largest air membrane coal storage facility closure project in Xinjiang Author/Source: Sinochem News Network Date: May 9, 2020 Clicks: 5 At 11:18 on May 8, the groundbreaking ceremony for the air membrane coal storage facility closure project of Henan Energy Xinjiang Zhongtai’s 1.3 million tons per year coking plant was held, marking the official start of construction. It is reported that this project adopts an EPC turnkey contract approach. It has a total span of 145 meters and a length of 340 meters; there are 3-meter-high coal retaining walls around it, giving the structure a total height of about 50 meters. The building area is nearly 50,000 square meters. It is currently the gas membrane coal storage facility with the largest span and area in the Xinjiang region, and it represents the application of new materials, new technologies, and new construction methods in the renovation of coal storage facilities. This project consists of systems such as membrane structures, power generation, ventilation and lighting, environmental monitoring, fire control, and automatic control. It offers advantages such as good airtightness, low cost, short construction time, easy maintenance, and energy efficiency; moreover, it uses high-tech membrane materials that provide high strength and resistance to aging. “Xinjiang is subject to strong winds and sandstorms; if effective wind and dust control measures are not implemented at coal storage sites, emissions occur in an uncontrolled manner. ”Zhang Jing, the company’s deputy general manager, explained that the coal storage area for the 1.3 million tons per year coking project is designed to hold around 160,000 tons of coal. The use of a gas membrane for complete sealing not only helps to reduce coal loss due to wind, thereby lowering operating costs, but it also eliminates dust pollution and protects the surrounding environment.
