Hualu won the bid for the EP general contracting of Air Chemicals’ large-scale gas island project / Source: Inner Mongolia Chemical Industry, Date: 2019-06-25, Clicks: 73. Recently, the results of the bid for the EP general contracting of the purification systems for Air Chemicals (Hohhot) Co., Ltd.’s large-scale gas island project were announced on June 20, 2019, and Hualu Technology won the bid for this project. This gasification island project is the first coal gasification and syngas supply project invested in, constructed, and operated by Air Products in China on its own; the intermediate handover of the facility is expected to be completed by May 31, 2021, with a project construction period of 26 months. Hualu will be responsible for the design and procurement of the purification equipment for the large-scale gas island project at Air Chemical Products (Hohhot) Co., Ltd. The large-scale gas island project of Air Chemical Products (Hohhot) Co., Ltd. is located in the Tuoketuo Industrial Park, Tuoketuo County, Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It involves a coal gasification unit with a capacity of 363,000 Nm3/h, along with associated facilities. Construction on this project commenced on March 15, 2019, and it will provide gas supply support for Jutai New Materials’ project aimed at producing 1 million tons of coal-based ethylene glycol per year. The 1 million-ton per year ethylene glycol production project of Inner Mongolia JiuTai New Materials Co., Ltd. is located in the Tuoketuo Industrial Park in Hohhot. With a total investment of 13.3 billion yuan, the project uses aerospace-based coal gasification and Shell’s gasification technologies, low-temperature methanol washing technology, as well as the world-leading formaldehyde hydroxymethylation technology developed by Davy Company to produce ethylene glycol. Among them, Air Products and Chemicals Inc. of the United States invested 4.8 billion yuan to build the air separation and gasification units. The project construction period is 3 years, with trial operation planned for 2020 and full production starting in 2021. Project details: Project name: Large-scale Gas Island Project of Air Chemical Products (Hohhot) Co., Ltd. Project investment: Total investment of 4,710 million yuan. Construction location: Industrial Park, Tuoketuo County, Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia, with a total land area of 180,851 m2. Construction contents: The main scale of this project includes a coal-to-gas plant with an output of 440,000 Nm3/h of usable gas (CO+H2), with a maximum capacity of 80,000 hours × 550,000 Nm3/h, as well as an air separation plant with a capacity of 2×100,000 Nm3. The construction site is located to the east of the ethylene glycol plant. The main components of the construction include gasification units, shift units, low-temperature methanol washing units, CO cryogenic separation units, PSA-H2 units, and air separation plants, among other production facilities ; The supporting utility and auxiliary production facilities include: substations, refrigeration plants, control rooms and other auxiliary production facilities, with the rest relying on the ethylene glycol project outside the boundary area. Public information shows that Air Products (NYSE ticker: APD) is a world-leading industrial gases company with a history of over 75 years. Industrial gases are the core business of the company, which provides air separation and process gases as well as related equipment, serving mainly manufacturing industries such as oil refining and petrochemicals, metals, electronics, and food and beverages. Air Products is also a global leader in providing liquefied natural gas process technologies and equipment. Industrial gases are supplied in an integrated and centralized manner as part of utility services, to ensure professionalism, safety, environmental protection, and efficiency. Gas islands (gasification islands) are classified into enterprise-level and park-level based on the size of the customer base; they are divided into syngas-type (CO+H2, H2, CO) and industrial gas-type according to the composition of the gas supplied. Furthermore, they can be categorized as chemical industry-type (refining/coal chemical industry/other chemical industries, etc.) and other industrial-type (ceramics/construction materials/cement, etc.), depending on the industries they serve. With the rapid development of gasification technology, the expansion of industrial parks (large enterprises), as well as industrial transformation and upgrading, it has become a trend to use specialized gasification units to supply industrial parks, especially large enterprises, with large quantities of high-quality, low-cost industrial gases such as syngas, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide.
