Continuous Stable Operation of Lurgi Gasifiers at Shanxi Lu’an Coal-based Synthetic Oil Company Sets New Record Author/Source: Coal Chemistry Network Date: July 5, 2019 Clicks: 104 On July 3, 2019, good news came from the gasification plant of Shanxi Lu’an Coal-based Synthetic Oil Company: a single Lurgi gasifier was able to operate continuously and stably for 230 days under complex coal quality conditions, thus breaking the previous record of 206 days set in 2018. Building on 206 days of continuous operation of Gasifier No. 4, Shanxi Lu’an Coal-based Synthetic Oil Company continued to optimize the system processes, reducing the steam-to-oxygen ratio in each gasifier from 5.55 Kg/Nm3 in 2018 to 5.37 Kg/Nm3. This enabled more complete reaction of the raw coal in the gasifiers, resulting in an increase in the concentration of useful components in the raw gas; the CO content rose from 24% to over 25%, while the carbon content in the ash residue from the gasifiers decreased from 15% to 9%. At the same time, external systems were optimized to adjust the pH value of gray water in a timely manner, thereby reducing corrosion and erosion in the pressure relief pipelines for gray water. While carrying out precise operations, continuous technical upgrades are implemented to ensure the stable operation of the gasification furnace: first, the limit mechanism of the ash lock was thoroughly modified, which reduced the number of times operators need to go to the site to perform cycling operations; it also decreased the number of times the ash lock valve operates, thereby extending its service life. Secondly, by modifying the pressure measurement pipelines for the steam fed into the furnace and installing a backwashing device on CF007, shutdowns of the gasification furnace caused by blockages in the instrument pressure lines were avoided. Third, the flushing pipelines for the ash steam lines and the spray water systems in the dust collectors were upgraded; since the major repairs to the dust collectors, fans, and ash steam lines in 2018, there has not been a single instance of failure that required shutdown for maintenance.
