On July 23, China’s first methanol-fueled boat, developed independently by Jianglong Boats Technology Co., Ltd., was officially launched at the Jianglong Boats Technology Park in Shenwan, Zhongshan City. This ship fills the gap in China’s field of methanol-powered vessel design and construction, and it serves as a positive example for the promotion and industrial application of methanol fuel in the domestic vessel industry. With the growing problem of shipborne pollution, environmental protection is receiving increasing attention from countries around the world; these countries have successively introduced various regulations to restrict ship emissions. Following the establishment by the International Maritime Organization of \"emission control areas\" for ships and \"sulfur emission control areas\", China, as a state party to the International Maritime Organization, has also designated emission control areas for ships in the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Bohai Sea region (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei), and has introduced a series of regulations to set standards for ship emissions. Against this backdrop, Jianglong Boats Technology Co., Ltd., with the support of its partners in the industrial chain such as Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd., Tianjin University, and Guangdong Yichang Lishi Machinery Co., Ltd., carried out research, development, design, and manufacturing of boats powered by methanol fuel. It succeeded in developing China’s first boat powered by methanol fuel that features independent intellectual property rights, and that boat was launched. This ship is primarily used for commercial experiments and validations, and it has generated a large amount of experimental data as well as valuable practical experience in areas such as the ship’s fuel tank systems, fuel injection systems, ventilation systems, fire suppression systems, and gas detection and alarm systems. In addition, multiple invention patents and utility model patents have been filed related to these systems and the overall design performance of the ship, and a research and development team skilled in the technology of methanol-fueled vessels has been established. According to a research report from the **Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine Combustion Science at Tianjin University, the methanol-based clean energy-powered boats launched this time exhibit an economic efficiency that is over 10% higher compared to boats powered by diesel alone. In terms of emissions, CO levels are reduced by 96%, hydrocarbons by 99%, and smoke density by 54%; all of these emission values are below the limits set in the latest \"Emission Limits and Measurement Methods for Ship Engine Exhaust Pollutants (Phases I and II)\”. It boasts good economic efficiency and environmental friendliness, and its prospects for commercial application are promising.
