On February 13, Hongda Xingye Co., Ltd. and Asahi Kasei Corporation of Japan signed an agreement regarding chlor-alkali hydrogen production. The announcement states that Hongda Xingye will introduce the ion exchange membrane electrolysis process developed by Asahi Kasei Corporation, along with the equipment for ion membrane electrolyzers, to produce hydrogen. By making full use of the resources and strengths of both parties, they aim to advance cooperation in the fields of chlor-alkali products and hydrogen energy. Hongda Xingye produces high-purity gaseous hydrogen, liquid hydrogen, and solid hydrogen using purification equipment, thereby enhancing its ability to overcome challenges in the liquid hydrogen production process; it is expected to make breakthroughs in the field of civilian liquid hydrogen production. Hongda Xingye was one of the first companies in China to propose the use of chlor-alkali processes for hydrogen production, and it has a production capacity of 1 million tons per year for chlor-alkali products. Compared to hydrogen produced from water, coal, and natural gas, the hydrogen generated in chlor-alkali production features low costs, high purity, and few impurities. In recent years, Hongda Xingye has leveraged its technical and experiential advantages in hydrogen production to actively develop the market for comprehensive hydrogen applications, thereby promoting the industrialization of hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization. Asahi Kasei Corporation was the first in the world to develop an ion-exchange membrane electrolysis process for the production of chlorine, hydrogen, and caustic soda. Asahi Kasei can provide all electrolysis process technologies, including ion exchange membranes and electrolyzers, anodes, cathodes, and operation techniques.
The hydrogen produced as a by-product of chlor-alkali processes is relatively pure; high-purity hydrogen can be obtained through dechlorination, deoxygenation, and dehydration. The process is simple and requires low investment. The by-products of resources in this area can be made good use of.
