DMTO methanol consumption enters the 2.8 era – Ningxia Baofeng sets an industry best record Author/Source: Yahuacoking Chemical Industry Date: 2020-02-18 Clicks: 41 In January 2020, the average monthly methanol consumption per ton of olefins at the second-phase DMTO plant of Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group Co., Ltd. reached 2.87 tons of methanol per ton of olefins, marking the entry of the DMTO industry into the 2.8 era. The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group Co., Ltd. have maintained close strategic cooperation over the years; together they built two DMTO plants with an annual capacity of 1.8 million tons each in the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base. The first plant and the second plant were both brought online successfully in October 2014 and October 2019, respectively. The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Sinopec Luoyang Engineering Co., Ltd., and Xinxing New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. have carried out a series of optimizations on the process package for Ningxia Baofeng Phase II, building on the continuous innovation achievements in DMTO technology. Since the official commissioning of the Phase II DMTO unit at Ningxia Baofeng in October 2019, production and technical personnel from various parties have worked together diligently to continuously optimize the process parameters of the DMTO unit, thereby reducing the methanol consumption per unit of product. In January 2020, the methanol consumption per ton of olefins in the plant’s monthly production reports dropped to 2.87 tons of methanol per ton of olefins. Technical parties such as the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics say they are confident in further reducing the methanol consumption per unit. Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group Co., Ltd. is located in the core area of the **-level Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base, and constitutes an important part of this base. Ningxia Baofeng adheres to the concept of green development, vigorously promotes technological innovation, strives to build a green, low-carbon circular economy industry chain, and actively fosters the development of a society that is resource-efficient and environmentally friendly. By integrating international and domestic advanced technologies and equipment, it has established a circular economy industrial chain for the combined production of coal, coke, gas, chemicals, oil, and electricity. This approach enables the transformation of coal resources from fuel into chemical raw materials, as well as their clean and efficient utilization; it is a typical model enterprise for coal-based circular economy. The DMTO unit in Baofeng, Ningxia, achieved a methanol consumption rate of 2.87 tons of methanol per ton of olefins, fully demonstrating the advancement of DMTO technology. It also demonstrates the refined and scientific management practices of Ningxia Baofeng Group, as well as its advanced skills in plant optimization. By doing so, it has changed the historical trend in the DMTO industry, where the average monthly methanol consumption has never been below 2.90; it has officially marked the entry of the DMTO industry into an era with a methanol consumption level of 2.8, thereby establishing Ningxia Baofeng’s leading position in this industry. The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics developed the methanol-to-low-carbon olefins (DMTO) technology, achieving the world’s first industrial application in 2010. Subsequently, it developed the DMTO-II and DMTO-III processes, thereby maintaining its international leadership in the field of coal/methanol-based olefin production. The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and Ningxia Baofeng Group will also carry out in-depth cooperation in areas such as the industrialization of the DMTO-III process.
It is also a source of pride for the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics~
From this perspective, the technological upgrades to the DMTO process can be considered quite successful. Luoyang Institute and the Institute of Chemical Physics carried out optimizations on the original DMTO process, and modifications were made to the DMTO unit in Baofeng Phase II. The main improvements include: (1) The reactor was equipped with a rapid separation device, which enables quick separation of the catalyst from the product gas, thereby reducing the occurrence of secondary side reactions; (2) A cooler is installed in the gas lift section of the regenerator to lower the temperature of the regenerated catalyst returning to the reactor, reduce catalyst coking, and increase the olefin yield ; (3) Optimize the methanol feeding process by adopting gas-phase methanol feeding, thereby completely eliminating the issue of liquid carried in the methanol feed, which facilitates the progress of the MTO reaction. The above three process improvements can effectively increase the olefin yield of the unit. Compared with Baofeng Phase I DMTO unit, both units use the same catalyst; the methanol consumption per ton of olefin is 2.98 (approximately 2.95 when using the calculation method for the Phase II unit). In the Phase II DMTO unit that employs the improved DMTO process, the optimal methanol consumption per ton of olefin is 2.87, representing a reduction of about 0.08. Another possible factor is that the second-phase DMTO unit was commissioned in October 2019, and the catalyst’s activity is currently quite good as well.
I tried it – it’s really good. Great rating! Hope more people will share it. Thank you
The technical upgrades have resulted in a reduction of 0.08 – Luoyang Institute is really amazing:handshake
