Construction resumes on Shanxi Woneng Chemical’s 300,000-ton ethylene glycol project / Source: Yaha Coal Chemicals Date: February 23, 2020 Clicks: 71 On the morning of February 21, the ten transformation projects in Quwo County, with a total investment of 2.907 billion yuan, officially commenced construction. The first batch of 10 transformation projects to commence construction total 2.907 billion yuan in investment. These include the \"Smart Vegetable Valley\" project in the Yellow River Golden Triangle, intelligent logistics systems for steel production in southern Shanxi, an intelligent management system for steel production in that region, the relocation project for Tongcai Industrial and Trade, Tongcai’s 600,000-ton capacity for high-quality steel production, a 93-megawatt coal gas clean power generation facility, projects related to the renovation of sheds in Jinrun, the Jinzhi·Parkli project, the development of high-standard farmland, as well as projects for production and development on the south bank of the Huai River and for ecological environment improvement. At the same time, five projects that are under construction were also resuming operations in phases today: Jinan South Steel’s two blast furnaces with a capacity of 1,860 cubic meters each, along with the associated facilities, costing a total of 8.664 billion yuan; Jinan South Steel’s plant for producing 1 million tons of steel products; Wonen Chemical’s plant for producing 300,000 tons of ethylene glycol; Liheng’s coking plant with a capacity of 1.7 million tons; and Hangyang’s oxygen production plant with an output capacity of 60,000 cubic meters. The commissioning ceremony for Shanxi Woneng Chemical Co., Ltd.’s project to produce 300,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol along with LNG from integrated waste gas was held on August 7, 2018. The raw materials used are coke oven gas and converter gas generated as by-products by Shanxi Liheng Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. The CTEG technology developed by High Chemistry and Donghua Technology is employed to produce 300,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol, with 156 million cubic meters per year of LNG being produced as a by-product. The project is located in the Quwo Ecological Industrial Park in Quwo County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, with a total investment of 398,773.13 million RMB. This project is currently the largest in China for producing ethylene glycol from comprehensive waste gases such as coke oven gas and converter gas. The construction scope includes a gas purification unit, an H2/CO cryogenic separation unit, a DMO reaction unit, ethylene glycol synthesis and distillation units, storage and transportation systems, utility systems, as well as auxiliary facilities. Donghua Technology is responsible for the engineering design of this project. Once the project is completed and put into operation, it will not only enable the recovery of waste gas, the conversion of waste into valuable resources, and the recycling of resources, but it will also serve as a model for enterprises to pursue transformation and upgrading as well as the development of an ecological civilization. It will set a precedent for the comprehensive utilization of converter gas and coke oven gas in domestic steelmaking and coking enterprises.
