Recently, China Five Rings Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Sinochem Group, signed an EPC contract for a 10,000-ton/year hydrogen storage project in Yidu with Huyang Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. This move indicates that the new hydrogen storage and transportation technologies developed by Huyang Energy are about to be put into industrial use. This new hydrogen storage and transportation technology is the LOHC production technique for organic liquid hydrogen storage materials developed by Huyang Energy; it represents a novel, safe, and efficient method for storing and transporting hydrogen, capable of addressing the issues of low safety levels and high costs associated with the storage, transportation, and application of hydrogen in the current hydrogen energy industry. Wuhuan Company possesses extensive experience in engineering management as well as world-leading technical advantages in areas such as the production of hydrogen from solid and gaseous waste, coal, natural gas, and biomass. It has made strategic investments in the development and utilization of hydrogen technology as well as in the hydrogen energy industry, and has achieved progress in these fields. In 2017, Wuhuan Company established a strategic partnership with Huyang Energy to work on technologies related to organic liquid hydrogen storage materials at normal temperature and pressure, achieving significant results. A pilot plant for producing such organic liquid hydrogen storage materials at a capacity of 1,000 tons per year, as well as a production line for hydrogenation/dehydrogenation catalysts, have been built and put into operation. The first medium-scale oil storage and hydrogenation (hydrogen-oil) pilot plant is currently under construction, and factories for manufacturing the associated hydrogenation and dehydrogenation equipment are also being set up. Hydrogen energy is recognized worldwide as the ultimate energy source, as well as an ideal clean energy source, featuring properties such as being non-toxic, clean, having a high calorific value, and low emissions. Our country attaches great importance to the development of the hydrogen energy industry, but there are numerous technical challenges in its progress. Issues such as the large-scale and low-cost production, storage, transportation, and utilization of hydrogen have yet to be resolved, which greatly hinders the development of this industry.
