On the afternoon of March 18, under the company’s overall planning, the Production Management Department took the lead in organizing the Power Center to conduct a trial of mixing sludge generated by the Qingyuan sewage treatment plant with the coal used in the boilers, in certain proportions. Wang Lifu, the company’s vice general manager, was present at the site to provide guidance throughout the process. Sludge co-firing test: This co-firing test involved mixing sludge with coal for use in Boiler No. 2 of the 50MW generator set at the power plant. The average steam load of the boiler is 110 t/h, with an average coal consumption of 28.76 t/h. The proportion of sludge used in combustion is 2%; to date, 12 tons of sludge have been used in this manner. The boiler operates stably, and flue gas emissions remain within normal levels after the addition of sludge. This does not affect the denitration and desulfurization processes of the unit, and all process parameters are normal, with no disturbances occurring. After drying, sludge has a calorific value of around 1900 kJ/kg. The dried sludge can be regarded as a fuel with a low calorific value but high volatile content; therefore, using dried sludge as an auxiliary fuel can reduce the amount of coal required as fuel. It is reported that Qingyuan Sewage Treatment Plant generates about 60–70 tons of sludge per day. Under normal operating conditions, the 3 boilers in use are sufficient to handle the amount of sludge produced by this plant on a daily basis. This setup allows the plant to save 135,000 yuan per month in terms of sludge treatment costs, as well as approximately 1,728 tons of coal per month, resulting in savings of around 691,200 yuan per month. Incinerating sludge can **reduce the costs associated with sludge disposal, as well as the environmental problems that arise from such disposal. It enables the transformation of sludge into resources and energy, addressing the issues related to sludge disposal and energy consumption. This approach helps to lower production costs and reduce the need for coal as a fuel.
