At 11:12 on October 22, 2020, Wanhua Chemical’s 3,000-ton multi-nozzle gasifier was successfully brought online for the first time. The second-phase gasification unit of Wanhua’s Yantai industrial park involves the design and construction of two multi-nozzle gasifiers with a capacity of 3,000 tons per day each. The inner diameter of the gasifier shells is 3,880 mm (for units D# and E#); one unit is in operation while the other serves as a backup. The designed effective gas production rate for each gasifier is 200,000 Nm3/h. This is supplemented by units for shift reaction with a capacity of 150,000 Nm3/h, methanol washing with a capacity of 300,000 Nm3/h, CO treatment with a capacity of 17,000 Nm3/h, as well as a methanol production plant with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tons. This project marks the third time that Wanhua Chemical has adopted the multi-nozzle opposed gasification technology in its Ningbo and Yantai plants. The gasification unit at Wanhua’s Yantai industrial park began construction in October 2011. The gasification process employs multi-nozzle water-coal slurry pressurized gasification technology. It features a high degree of automation, significant energy savings, as well as being safe and environmentally friendly; it is a large-scale, clean, and efficient production system. It complies with the industrial policies regarding energy conservation, environmental protection, and the circular economy, boasting strong market competitiveness and broad development prospects. In the first phase, the installation was designed and constructed to include 3 multi-nozzle opposed gasification units with a capacity of 1,500 tons per day each. These gasification units have a diameter of 3,400 mm (A#、B#、C#). Supporting this setup are facilities for ammonia conversion with a capacity of 100,000 Nm3/h, methanol washing with a capacity of 200,000 Nm3/h, pure hydrogen production with a capacity of 100,000 Nm3/h, CO production with a capacity of 25,000 Nm3/h, as well as synthetic ammonia production at a rate of 140,000 tons per year and methanol production at a rate of 200,000 tons per year. On September 22, 2014, the gasification unit completed its initial test run successfully; on September 25, the entire system was operational, marking the start of formal production. It passed the performance assessment on August 20, 2015, meeting the performance criteria. Wanhua Yantai Industrial Park covers a total area of 10.6 square kilometers, with an planned investment of 70 billion yuan. Construction began in 2011, focusing on two main projects: the integration project for isocyanate (MDI) production at Wanhua’s old factory, and the integration project for propylene oxide and acrylates. The core of this initiative is a MDI production facility with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons, developed using Wanhua’s own intellectual property. The integration project for propylene oxide and acrylates includes a propane dehydrogenation to produce propylene facility with an annual capacity of 750,000 tons, a propylene oxide facility with an annual capacity of 240,000 tons, a butyl octyl alcohol facility with an annual capacity of 250,000 tons, acryic acid and acrylate facilities with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons, and a polyether polyol facility with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons. The ethylene project has been approved; it will have an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of ethylene and propylene, 400,000 tons of polyvinyl chloride, 150,000 tons of ethylene oxide, and 650,000 tons of styrene. The construction period for this project is 2 years, with a total investment of 16 billion yuan.
