Successful One-Time Commissioning of DMTO Unit in Yueneng Chemical’s Improvement Project Author/Source: Yueneng Chemical Date: 12-11-2020 Clicks: 6 On December 10, the DMTO unit in Yueneng Chemical’s improvement project was successfully commissioned for the first time, producing high-quality polymeric-grade ethylene and propylene. The DMTO unit plays a crucial role as a link between various units in the landfilling and compensation projects. Its methanol feedstock comes mainly from upstream methanol complexes, while the ethylene and propylene produced are sent to downstream polyolefin units for polymerization. The successful commissioning of this device signifies an important victory in the commissioning tests for the filling and compensation works, with all intermediate stages of the entire process now fully connected. Under severe cold conditions, the commissioning of the DMTO unit faced numerous difficulties. Yulin Energy Chemical Company confronted these challenges head-on and resolved a series of issues that hindered the unit’s operation. Once the entire facility entered the trial operation phase, Yulin Petrochemical assembled a skilled technical team to carry out various preparatory tasks, including starting up the propylene refrigeration compressor, the quench water washing system, the reaction gas compressor, and installing catalysts in the relevant reactors. On the afternoon of December 9, the one-time feeding of the device was successful. At around 3 p.m. on December 10, a loud report came through the walkie-talkie from the plant operators: \"The ethylene and propylene produced are all of qualified quality…\" Amidst thunderous applause, the person in charge of the plant said excitedly, \"Yueneng’s second DMTO unit has been put into operation!\" ” The designed production capacity of the DMTO unit in Yulin Energy Chemical’s filling and improvement project is 600,000 tons per year. Construction of this unit began on site on August 26, 2018, marking the entry of the project into the on-site construction phase. On December 31, 2019, the construction of the two structures was successfully completed ; On September 17 this year, the anti-reheat steam generator began to be dried, and the emergency cooling water system was put into operation ; On November 15, the joint test of the reactor compressor in nitrogen operation was successful, and the entire process of the separation and compression unit was operational ; On November 27, the propylene refrigeration compressor completed a successful one-time actual gas trial run. As the second methanol-to-olefins unit at Yulin Energy Chemical, the regenerator and olefin separation units of the DMTO unit utilize process technologies from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and American Lummus respectively. Building on previous production experience, Yueneng Chemical has optimized the reactor components, regenerator components, as well as equipment and processes such as quench water filters and propane washing. As of the time of writing, the device is operating stably. All the employees of Yulin Energy Chemical Company are working tirelessly to accelerate the commissioning of the methanol complex as well as the LDPE/EVA plants, with the goal of completing the entire production process at the earliest possible time.
