On November 3, the heating and ignition of the F-101 suspended-bed hydrogenation reactor as part of Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 15 million tons per year demonstration project for clean and efficient conversion of coal was completed successfully on the first attempt. The 500,000 tons per year coal tar suspension bed hydrogenation unit uses pyrolytic tar produced by a pulverized coal pyrolysis unit and purchased lignite tar as raw materials. After passing through a raw material pretreatment unit, the coal tar is separated into phenol-containing oil, hydrogen supply solvent crude oil, and fresh feedstock for the suspension bed hydrogenation reaction. The main products are crude phenol, hydrogenated intermediate oil, further intermediate oil, and asphalt. On October 30, the pyrolysis phase of the Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical Demonstration Project for the clean and efficient conversion of coal into high-value products was successfully completed. The handover document for the pyrolysis startup project was signed with the project leaders of Shengbang Technology Co., Ltd. and Beijing Huaxia Petrochemical Engineering Supervision Co., Ltd. Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical is carrying out the construction of a demonstration project for the production of new chemical materials through the differentiated utilization of coal in the Qingshui Industrial Park of the Yushen Industrial Zone. As the largest coal chemical project under construction globally at present, this project covers an area of approximately 13 square kilometers, with a total investment of 126.2 billion yuan; it is capable of processing over 24 million tons of coal each year. The project is constructed in two phases and four stages, comprising a total of 27 process units along with associated utility systems. These mainly include the medium- and low-temperature pyrolysis of 15 million tons of coal, the production of 5.6 million tons of methanol, 1.8 million tons of ethylene glycol, 2 million tons of MTO, as well as downstream products derived from these intermediate materials. The first phase of the project requires an investment of around 70 billion yuan; it will involve the construction of facilities for producing 1.8 million tons per year of ethylene glycol, 5.6 million tons per year of methanol, and 2 million tons per year of olefins, as well as a large amount of fine chemical products derived from these olefins. Phase 1, Stage 2 involves the construction of a facility with an annual capacity of 5.6 million tons of methanol, 2 million tons of olefins, as well as facilities for further processing. Phase II of the project focuses on coal pyrolysis and is also divided into two stages. The first stage is the pyrolysis startup project, which includes a coal powder pyrolysis unit with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tons (based on the dry weight of raw coal), a catalyst production unit with an annual capacity of 35,000 tons, a suspended-bed hydrogenation unit with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons, a combined hydrogenation unit for hydrogen donors and light oil (including a unit for processing hydrogen donors with an annual capacity of 270,000 tons and a unit for hydrogenation and quality improvement with an annual capacity of 400,000 tons), a gas desulfurization unit, a process wastewater treatment unit with an annual capacity of 420,000 tons, as well as coal pyrolysis tanks and related facilities. This project will be constructed simultaneously with Yulin Chemical’s first-phase ethylene glycol plant with an annual production capacity of 1.8 million tons, utilizing Shengbang Technology’s own patented pyrolysis technology ; In the second phase, the scale of pyrolysis will be increased to 15 million tons, and the coal tar industry chain will be expanded to produce aromatic hydrocarbons as well as downstream products derived from arylenes.
