Taiyuan University of Technology has successfully been approved for the establishment of the \"Provincial-Ministerial Joint Key Laboratory for Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal-Based Energy.\" Author/Source: Sinochem News Network. A few days ago, the Provincial-Ministerial Joint Key Laboratory for Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal-Based Energy was approved for establishment by the Ministry of Science and Technology, marking the first such key laboratory at Taiyuan University of Technology. This represents a historic achievement in terms of the development of high-level research platforms at our university, and it serves as a good start for innovation in science and technology at our institution in 2021. The Key Laboratory for Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal-based Energy, jointly established by the province and ministries, was founded in 1985. It was designated as one of the first key laboratories in Shanxi Province in 1997, and in 2010 it was approved to become a training base for key laboratories jointly established by the province and ministries. The laboratory serves as a vital support for the school’s “211 Project” and “Double First-Class” initiatives, as well as for the postdoctoral research program in the field of chemical engineering and technology, the doctoral program in this same discipline, and the key discipline of chemical process engineering. According to international third-party data, it ranks tenth in the world in terms of research output in the field of coal science, and is one of the five most active research institutions in the international field of coal chemical engineering. The establishment of the key laboratory has received strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee, the provincial government, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and the Provincial Department of Education. During its operation, the laboratory will adhere to the relevant requirements for the establishment of key laboratories, strive to meet high standards in its development, focus on specific research areas, enhance the quality of its research staff and experimental facilities, promote open cooperation, continuously improve its research capabilities, and establish sound management mechanisms. It aims to become an important hub in the region for conducting high-level scientific research, gathering and training outstanding researchers, and fostering cooperation and academic exchanges both domestically and internationally. Academic leader Academician Xie Kechang has served as the principal scientist for two consecutive times on \"973 Projects\" in the field of coal science and technology, and has won numerous awards. He has led several major consulting projects on the energy revolution undertaken by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, making significant contributions to energy planning for new development areas and strategic consulting on the energy revolution; he has also promoted legislative efforts aimed at the low-carbon utilization of high-carbon energy sources. Over the past 36 years, this key laboratory has made silent contributions and persevered in its efforts, making significant contributions to ** and the clean conversion and utilization of coal in Shanxi Province, the development of modern coal chemical industry, as well as the training of talent in this field.
