The hydrogen energy industry is once again seeing new entrants! On the evening of April 12, China Gas issued a announcement stating that the company had signed a Framework Agreement on Cooperation in Hydrogen Energy Technology Research, Development, Promotion, and Application with CNOOC Gas & Power Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “CNOOC Gas & Power Group”). This is another significant move by China Gas to focus on the field of new energy (particularly the hydrogen industry), following its announcement at the beginning of March this year that it had reached a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Sinopec Group Co., Ltd. According to the terms of the agreement, the two parties will establish a long-term partnership in areas such as natural gas-based hydrogen production, the construction of hydrogen refueling stations, and integrated energy supply projects that combine multiple energy sources, taking into account the characteristics of their respective industries. Furthermore, in terms of comprehensive energy supply, cooperation on multi-energy complementary comprehensive energy supply projects will be carried out. As one of the largest cross-regional comprehensive energy service providers in China, China Gas has over a thousand subsidiaries. It operates more than 600 pipeline gas projects with exclusive rights, over 600 refueling stations for natural gas vehicles and ships, more than 110 LPG distribution terminals, and over 110 comprehensive energy supply projects that make use of multiple energy sources. In the future, China Gas will leverage its extensive network of city gas projects and fueling stations across the country, its vertically integrated LPG/propane resources and infrastructure – which serve as excellent raw materials for hydrogen production – as well as its years of experience in new energy research and development. It will actively expand its presence in various segments related to hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and refueling, in order to fully capitalize on the huge market potential of green hydrogen. CNOOC Gas & Power Group is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation. It is currently the largest importer of liquefied natural gas in China and the third-largest in the world. The group holds technical, managerial, and market advantages in areas such as new types of skid-mounted natural gas hydrogen production systems, high-pressure hydrogen storage and refueling equipment, safety assessments for hydrogen refueling stations, and distributed energy systems. “China Gas and CNOOC Gas & Power have done extensive work in developing hydrogen energy services in the past.
