As the weather gets hotter, the temperature of the wastewater in Sino-NEW Chemical’s system rises, as does the temperature of the wastewater discharged outside. This directly affects the activity of the bacteria used for wastewater treatment, resulting in a decrease in the efficiency of wastewater treatment; in severe cases, it can even lead to the failure of the wastewater treatment system. Therefore, in order to maintain the temperature of the wastewater and reduce the load on the wastewater treatment system, the gasification plant decided to put into use the heat exchanger located on the second-floor platform of the slag water area, in order to cool the wastewater once more before sending it to the wastewater treatment facility. This heat exchanger is used in series with E1405 to provide double cooling for the wastewater discharged, thereby maintaining the viability of the microorganisms used in wastewater treatment. On the morning of April 12, to ensure the heat exchange efficiency of the heat exchanger, the team disassembled it for inspection before putting it into use and found that the tubes were severely clogged with scale. Subsequently, the plant manager led the team members to bring in a cleaning vehicle, connected the fire hoses, and worked overtime to clear the heat exchangers. Due to the hard buildup that made cleaning difficult, Hou Jingyao, a technician from the branch factory, spent 5 hours clearing the heat exchanger after taking over shifts on the day shift on the 13th.
