Recently, the carbon dioxide capture and utilization environmental protection project at Shuifu Yuntianhua Co., Ltd., which was overseen by Southwest Chemical Engineering Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., passed the performance assessment successfully, enabling the continuous and stable production of food-grade liquid carbon dioxide. The output volume, quality, and key consumption metrics of this product all met or exceeded the performance guarantees specified in the EPC contract. Using CO2 generated as a by-product of coal-to-methanol production as raw material, this project employs low-temperature and low-oxygen catalytic oxidation dehydrogenation technology developed by Southwest Chemical Engineering, as well as heat integration techniques involving refrigeration and low-temperature distillation. It is capable of producing 100,000 tons per year of food-grade CO2; the impurity levels in this product are well below the current standards for carbon dioxide used as a food additive. Additionally, the electricity consumption per ton of CO2 produced is significantly lower than that of similar facilities in China. Project Overview: On April 11, 2020, after half a year of construction, the carbon dioxide capture and utilization environmental protection facility at Shuifu Yuntianhua was fully operational, and liquid carbon dioxide was successfully produced at 22:20. The plant capable of producing 300 tons of carbon dioxide per day was constructed by the Southwest Chemical Engineering Research and Design Institute. It is a project initiated by the company based on the dual advantages of environmental benefits and economic benefits, and it also represents one of the key projects for the company’s transformation and upgrading. Using the carbon dioxide emissions from the low-temperature methanol washing process in the methanol plant as raw material, this project officially commenced construction on September 16, 2019, with the aim of producing liquid carbon dioxide with a purity of 99.99%. Once completed and put into operation, the project will not only transform excess carbon dioxide into a valuable resource but will also serve as another powerful driver for the company’s sustainable and high-quality development, providing new momentum for the growth of the industrial park.
