Date: 2021-09-02 Clicks: 17 Recently, the green technology for converting coke oven gas into methanol developed by this institute was added to the aforementioned list. In response to the need for clean and efficient utilization of exhaust gases from heavily polluting industries, Southwest Chemical Engineering has, by leveraging platforms such as the **Key Laboratory for Comprehensive Utilization of Industrial Emissions** and the **Carbon-1 Chemistry Engineering Technology Research Center**, developed key technologies including advanced purification processes for coke oven gas, oxygen-based autothermal conversion processes for coke oven gas along with corresponding catalysts, methanol synthesis catalysts, as well as processes for energy savings and resource recycling. It has also created software packages for the production of methanol from coke oven gas at a capacity of 100,000 to 500,000 tons per year, thereby developing green technologies for this purpose; third-party evaluations have shown that these technologies are at an advanced level. This technology has opened up new avenues for the efficient utilization of coke oven gas resources in China. Nearly 30 industrial plants have been installed using this technology, with a total designed capacity for producing methanol from coke oven gas of nearly 4 million tons per year. The plants that are already in operation include Daxing Energy Company’s 200,000-ton-per-year methanol production plant using coke oven gas, Hebei Jinniu Xuyang Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 200,000-ton-per-year methanol production plant using coke oven gas, and Shenhua Wuhai Energy Co., Ltd.’s 300,000-ton-per-year methanol production plant using coke oven gas. This project won the National Chemical Industry Quality Project Award. The promotion of this achievement has yielded significant economic and social benefits, as well as advantages in the comprehensive utilization of resources and in energy conservation and emission reduction.
