Construction of 1.2 million t/a lignite carbon wastewater treatment project by Shenmu Calcium Carbide Group commenced Author/Source: Huahua Net Coal Chemicals Date: 2021-10-21 Clicks: 40 On October 18, the organic wastewater treatment project for the 1.2 million t/a lignite carbon production facility owned by Shenmu Calcium Carbide Group Energy Development Co., Ltd. started construction in Shenmu High-Tech Zone. This project is the first domestic wastewater treatment project for semi-coke production that follows a short-process approach. It is EPC-contracted by Sinochem Research Institute of Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. The main equipment utilized consists of patented products developed by Tianjin Chuangju Technology Co., Ltd. The integration of these new technologies will enable nearly zero-discharge standards to be achieved for semi-coke wastewater. Yang Lin, Party Secretary and General Manager of Sinochem Technology Group Company, said that the company’s research team optimized and integrated the traditional ammonia evaporation and phenol removal process with advanced oxidation techniques for high COD wastewater. By combining chemical and biochemical methods, they developed a comprehensive set of innovative technologies for treating lignite coke wastewater. In this process, the wastewater is first treated to remove oil and phenols through ammonia evaporation; thereafter, impurities such as suspended solids, oil, ammonia, and phenols are removed from the organic wastewater, reducing the levels of phenols and ammonia that can be harmful to biochemical bacteria. The wastewater is then sent to the biochemical treatment unit, where it is processed to meet regulatory standards before being reused. The lignite coke wastewater treatment facility that is now under construction is a sub-project of Shenmu Calcium Carbide Company’s 1.2 million tons per year project for the circular and comprehensive utilization of calcium carbide resources. With a total investment of 85.25 million yuan, this facility utilizes advanced processing technologies to treat the wastewater generated by the lignite coke production process; all the treated wastewater is reused, thereby addressing the problem of wastewater pollution caused by lignite coke at its source. It will serve as a model for the green and high-quality development of the lignite coke industry. The project includes an oil removal unit for treating lignite organic wastewater at a capacity of 45 m3/h, an ammonia evaporation and phenol removal unit, as well as a biochemical treatment system with associated auxiliary facilities; completion and commissioning are expected in July 2022.
