The annual production of 600,000 tons of ethanol at Anhui Carbonxin Technology Co., Ltd. has officially commenced. Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry Journal. Date: December 23, 2021. Clicks: 1. On December 20, a ceremony was held to mark the start of trial production of methanol at Anhui Carbonxin Technology Co., Ltd., as well as the official commencement of the EPC work for the ethanol production project. The successful completion of the ceremony marks the substantial completion of the project with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of methanol, putting it in condition for trial production; it also signifies the official launch of the project with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons of ethanol. Anhui Carbonxin Technology Co., Ltd. is one of the key enterprises in Anhui (Huaibei) New Coal Chemical Industry Base. The projects for producing 500,000 tons of methanol and 600,000 tons of ethanol involve large-scale investments, advanced technological processes, and strong industrial impact. They represent crucial projects for Huaibei Mining Group in expanding its coal chemical industry chain and developing the fine chemical sector. These projects are of great significance for Huaibei City in improving its infrastructure for basic industries and in establishing high-quality clusters for advanced polymer materials and fine chemicals. The total investment in the project to comprehensively utilize coke oven gas for methanol production, with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year, amounts to 2 billion yuan. Utilizing coal as raw material, the project makes comprehensive use of the hydrogen-rich purge gas generated by the existing two phases of methanol production facilities at Linhuan Coking Co., Ltd., which have a combined capacity of 400,000 tons. Carbon supplementation is achieved through coal gasification technology; the planned annual output of methanol is 500,000 tons. The total investment in the 600,000 t/a ethanol plant is 3.395 billion yuan. It utilizes the DMTE technology developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Methanol from the existing methanol production facility serves as the raw material. A coal gasification unit is employed to produce syngas, from which carbon monoxide and hydrogen are separated. Through methanol dehydration, dimethyl ether carbonylation, methyl acetate hydrogenation, and subsequent separation processes, the plant is capable of producing 600,000 tons of ethanol annually. Once completed, it will become the world’s largest ethanol facility.
