On February 9, the candidates selected for the project to prepare a feasibility study report for China Coal Ordos Energy Chemical’s 100,000-ton/year demonstration project for producing methanol via liquid sunlight, carbon dioxide, and green hydrogen were announced. Project Name: Feasibility Study Preparation Service for the 100,000 tons per year Liquid Sun – Methanol Production from Carbon Dioxide and Green Hydrogen Technology Demonstration Project of China Coal Ordos Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd.Winner of the bid: First place – China Power Engineering Consulting Group North China Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd.
Process technology: The Liquid Sun technology developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is to be utilized.
Scale of the project facilities: Wind and solar power generation systems, hydrogen production and storage systems, a 100,000 tons per year methanol production facility using carbon dioxide and green hydrogen, as well as carbon dioxide capture systems. China Coal Ordos Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. was established on June 8, 2011, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China National Coal Group Corporation. The company has completed the first phase of the Tuk Chemical Fertilizer project, which has an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of synthetic ammonia and 1.75 million tons of urea; the entire production process was brought online on February 1, 2014 ; The technical renovation project for the second phase, with an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of methanol from syngas, began trial operation on April 30, 2021, and is currently operating smoothly. On October 15, 2020, the kiloton-scale demonstration project for the synthesis of liquid solar fuel (\"liquid sunlight\”), jointly developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou New Area Petrochemical Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd., and Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., was successfully put into operation. This project has developed two catalytic technologies: hydrogen production through water electrolysis and the catalytic synthesis of green methanol from carbon dioxide. It has also integrated and innovated the entire process equipment for the synthesis of liquid solar fuel, possessing complete independent intellectual property rights; the overall technology is at the international leading level.
