The plant for producing ethylene glycol from coke oven exhaust gas through POX conversion operates stably. Author/Source: Pu Jing Chemical Industry. Date: March 17, 2022. Clicks: 15. On March 4, 2022, Jianyuan Coal Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. in Etoke Banner successfully commissioned the dual-system facility for producing 260,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year from coke oven exhaust gas; the purity of the product reached 99.94%, and all specifications met the standards for polyester-grade ethylene glycol as defined in GB/T4649-2018. The project is located in the Qipanjing Industrial Park in Eket Banner, and it is the world’s largest production facility for producing ethylene glycol from coke oven exhaust gases. The syngas-to-ethylene glycol technology from Shanghai Pujing Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. was adopted, with Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. handling the engineering design. This device uses coke oven off-gas as raw material; after conversion in a POX furnace (oxygen-rich, catalyst-free conversion furnace), syngas is produced, which is then purified and separated to yield CO and H2 that are sent to the ethylene glycol production unit. Compared with traditional coal-based ethylene glycol projects, it not only enables the resource utilization of coke oven exhaust gases and contributes to pollution control in Inner Mongolia, but also features lower costs and products with strong market competitiveness.
