Des Plaines, Illinois, USA, March 17, 2022 – Honeywell (Nasdaq: HON) has recently introduced a new catalyst coating membrane (CCM) technology for green hydrogen production, and it will work with electrolyzer manufacturers to further test this technology. Using electrolyzers powered by renewable electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen to produce green hydrogen is expected to play an important role in the energy transition over the next few decades. According to the Hydrogen Council’s projections, global demand for hydrogen is set to increase by 5 to 7 times over the next three decades. Honeywell’s innovative technology focuses on catalyst-coated membranes for proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers and ion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzers. Honeywell’s latest catalyst-coated membrane utilizes breakthrough proprietary high ionic conductivity membrane technology and highly active catalysts. Laboratory test results show that this new technology can effectively improve the efficiency of electrolyzers and current density, and is expected to reduce electrolyzer costs by 25%1.
