The hydrogen peroxide-based propylene oxide technology (HPPO) independently developed by Tianchen Company has passed the evaluation. Recently, the hydrogen peroxide-based propylene oxide technology (HPPO) developed by Tianchen Company underwent an evaluation of scientific and technological achievements organized by the Tianjin Science and Technology Achievement Evaluation Center. Professor Jian Xigao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and from Dalian University of Technology, served as the chairman of the evaluation committee. The members of the committee were experts from Nankai University, Tianjin University, Tianjin Polytechnic University, Tianjin University of Technology, Tianjin Bohua Group, and CNOOC Tianjin Research Institute of Chemical Industry. The experts present listened carefully to the project work reports, technical research reports, details of technological innovations, and novelty search reports; they reviewed the technical documents in detail, and posed questions on site as well as engaging in thorough discussions. After a thorough review, the experts on the appraisal committee unanimously agreed that Tianchen Company’s independently developed propylene oxide production technology using hydrogen peroxide (HPPO) has passed the evaluation for scientific and technological achievements, with its overall technical level reaching international advanced standards. Wang Lei, a member of the Party Committee and deputy general manager of Tianchen Company, introduced the achievements the company has made in technological innovation, and expressed his sincere gratitude to the experts on the evaluation committee for their assessment of Tianchen Company’s technical accomplishments. He noted that as a flagship enterprise in China’s chemical industry, Tianchen has for many years adhered to a strategy of innovation-driven development and technological self-reliance. The HPPO technology for propylene oxide developed independently by Tianchen Company took 8 years to develop, progressing from pilot tests and scale-up trials to successful industrial implementation. When using this technology to produce propylene oxide, compared with the traditional chlorohydrin method, the consumption of propylene is reduced, and the amount of wastewater generated as well as the waste residue discharged are significantly decreased. This technology is in line with the **Guidance Catalogue for Industrial Structure Adjustment (2019 edition) issued by the National Development and Reform Commission**, and it helps to promote the industrial upgrading of the propylene oxide industry. The first industrial demonstration unit built using this technology was successfully put into operation in May 2021, with its product specifications meeting the premium standards set by national regulations. In January 2022, Tianchen Company, together with strategic investors and an employee co-investment platform, established a project company to invest in the construction of the first phase of the 600,000 tons per year propylene oxide project in Quangang, Fujian ; This project is a key initiative aimed at strengthening and complementing the industrial chain in the Quangang Petrochemical Industrial Park; it is also a significant project that helps the region achieve industrial upgrading and carbon emission reduction. In addition, several domestic plants with a single-unit production capacity of 150,000–300,000 tons per year are under construction, and they will generate significant economic and social benefits. The series of projects developed using this technology will contribute to the high-quality development of the regional economy and the achievement of the \"dual carbon\" goals. They can effectively meet China’s growing demand for propylene oxide, and are of great significance in increasing the country’s self-sufficiency in propylene oxide.
