97% completion of Yulin Chemical’s 1.8 million tons/year ethylene glycol project! It is expected that by the end of July, the overall construction will be completed. Author/Source: Coal-based New Materials; Date: 2022-04-16; Clicks: 15,180. The project for producing 1.8 million tons per year of ethylene glycol has reached 97% of its overall schedule – civil work, steel structure construction, and equipment installation are essentially complete. 97% of the process pipelines have been installed, 98% of the electrical work is done, and 97.4% of the instrumentation installation work is complete... As the world’s largest modern coal chemical project currently under construction, the demonstration project for producing new chemical materials through the selective utilization of coal by Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd. has been included in documents such as the “13th Five-Year Plan for Energy Development” and the “13th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Advanced Coal Processing Industries”. One of the phases of the project will be completed and put into operation this year. The project is located in the Qingshui Industrial Park of the Yushen Industrial Zone, with a total investment of over 100 billion yuan and an area of approximately 23,054 mu. The project uses low-metamorphic long-flame coal from northern Shaanxi as raw material, and achieves differentiated utilization of coal and expansion of the industrial chain through 3 conversion steps; that is, by subjecting 15 million tons of raw coal to pyrolysis and hydroprocessing of coal tar, primary products such as pyrolytic gas, distillate oil, and semi-coke are produced ; Deeply process primary products to produce bulk platform products such as ethylene glycol, methanol/olefins, aromatics, and base oils ; Further processing is carried out to produce four main categories of end products, including high-value-added materials, battery electrolytes, biodegradable plastics, and special oils. Once the project is fully completed, it will be able to convert approximately 29 million tons of coal per year, producing 9.62 million tons of various chemical products. The annual sales revenue will amount to 134.4 billion yuan, the industrial added value will be 113 billion yuan, and the after-tax profit will be 62.5 billion yuan. One of the phases of this project is carried out in two steps and includes facilities for the medium- and low-temperature pyrolysis of 1.2 million tons per year of coal, the hydrogenation of 500,000 tons per year of coal tar, and a plant for producing ethylene glycol from 1.8 million tons per year of semi-coke (coal), among others. The total investment in this project amounts to 30.1 billion yuan; construction began in September 2019, with the facilities set to be completed and put into operation gradually by 2022. As of the end of March, the 1.8 million tons per year ethylene glycol project had completed 97% of its overall plan, with construction entering the final stage; completion is expected by the end of July. The primary power supply was successfully restored to Area 11 of the pyrolysis startup project, and it was put into formal operation. At 13:30 on April 13, the No. 1 35kV main transformer was successfully powered up ; At 18:30, the 2# 35kV main transformer was successfully powered up, and all the busbars in the 10kV medium-voltage cabinets were also energized. This marked the successful primary power-up of the 35kV transformer in Area 11 of Yulin Chemical’s 15 million tons per year demonstration project for the clean and efficient conversion of coal into various products, as well as its official commissioning. This laid a solid foundation for the smooth commissioning of the various systems that follow. Zone 11# is supplied with power from two sources, namely feeders 3527 and 3528 in the 35kV substation of the 110kV main substation; the main equipment includes 2 units of 35kV oil-immersed transformers and 30 units of medium-voltage switchgear. The successful power supply to Area 11 is a crucial step in the entire pyrolysis startup project. At present, there are 3 10kV substations and 4 0.4kV substations in this substation complex, which are responsible for the power transmission and distribution tasks related to this pyrolysis startup project. During the construction process, to ensure that substation No. 11 could receive power smoothly, the Pulverized Coal Pyrolysis Project Team and the Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation Center paid close attention to the entire construction process. In strict accordance with **electrical construction standards, dedicated personnel were assigned to conduct inspections, and any potential issues were addressed promptly, so as to ensure that substation No. 11 could be connected to the power supply by the scheduled deadline. The successful power supply to the substation in Area 11 is of great significance; it not only provides a solid guarantee for the power supply to subsequent substation installations but also indicates that the pyrolysis startup project is about to enter the trial production phase, offering strong support for the official commissioning of this project in the next stage. The No. 2 boiler at the power station of the Air Separation Heat and Power Project was successfully ignited. At 01:08 on April 14, the No. 2 boiler at the power station of this project was ignited for the first time, marking the successful completion of another important milestone for this project. To ensure the successful ignition of Boiler No. 2, the project team established an efficient coordination and feedback mechanism, holding daily commissioning coordination meetings to report on the progress of work for that day, arrange tasks for the next phase, and coordinate the resolution of issues arising among various parties ; Plans for system energy isolation and boiler ignition were developed, and relevant technical personnel carefully reviewed them before implementing them.
