On the 3rd, reporters learned from the **Energy Bureau that by 2025, China’s total production of primary energy will reach 5.13 billion tons of standard coal, exceeding the 5 billion-ton mark for the first time; the effectiveness in ensuring energy supply was the best it has been during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Power generation from non-fossil fuels continued to grow rapidly, while coal-fired power generation declined for the first time in a decade. By 2025, the additional power generation from non-fossil fuels across the country will account for 112.1% of the total increase in electricity consumption in the whole economy, exceeding 50% for the fourth time since 2020. With rapid growth in electricity generation from wind, solar, and hydro power sources, thermal power plants play a more fundamental role in providing stability and regulation; their annual electricity generation amounted to about 6.3 trillion kWh, a 0.7% decrease compared to the previous year. Coal production is growing steadily. According to statistics, China’s raw coal production in 2025 will be 4.85 billion tons, representing a 1.4% increase on a year-on-year basis, which is 3 percentage points lower than the average annual growth rate during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Domestic crude oil production continues to increase, and the diversification of imports has yielded significant results. “During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, annual crude oil production will return to the level of 200 million tons and continue to rise steadily; by 2025, crude oil production is expected to reach 216 million tons, representing a 1.5% increase on a year-on-year basis. Crude oil imports amounted to 578 million tons, a 4.4% increase on a year-on-year basis. The structure of crude oil imports has continued to improve, with the number of countries from which oil is imported having increased to around 40. Domestic gas production continues to grow, while the reliance on imports has reached a new low. By 2025, China’s natural gas production will reach 262.06 billion cubic meters, with annual increases of over 10 billion cubic meters for 9 consecutive years. Annual natural gas imports amounted to 176.46 billion cubic meters, a decrease of 2.8% compared to the previous year. The external dependence on natural gas is 40%, the lowest level during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
