Passivation is the suppression of a catalyst’s activity, creating a protective film to safeguard the catalyst! To prevent oxidation and spontaneous combustion during the unloading process, it is necessary to ensure proper purging with nitrogen and to check for the presence of flammable gases. Additionally, when unloading from the unloading port, the reactor temperature should be reduced to room temperature. When using nitrogen for purging, attention must be paid to changes in the temperature of the reactor bed; this temperature usually rises first before falling. The purity of nitrogen may not be perfect, as it may contain some oxygen! It will undergo an oxidation reaction with the catalyst, releasing heat; nitrogen is used to maintain a slight positive pressure of around 0.05 MPa at the top for nitrogen protection! A natural phenomenon that prevents the presence of ferrous sulfide inside the reactor! Take proper safety measures when removing the agent! It’s mainly about security.
