【Daily Question 2019】Hydrogen production and hydrogenation section – Question No. 5-19: During routine inspections, it is found that the lubricating oil in pumps/compressors contains water or impurities. How should this be dealt with? Damaged or water-contaminated lubricating oil can impair the lubrication of relevant components, and over time this can lead to damage as well. Therefore, the pump should be replaced immediately, the oil tank cleaned, and new lubricating oil installed. Those who provide a correct answer will receive 1 point, while those who get it wrong will not receive any points. Please have the person in charge update the score for the question setter promptly. First, find out the reasons for the high amount of impurities in the incoming water. Factors causing water ingress: internal leakage in the oil cooler, leakage in the water-cooled shaft seal. Factors contributing to excessive impurities include a faulty new oil filter, a faulty circulating oil filter, and the presence of too many impurities brought in by the compressed gas used for injection lubrication, which cannot be filtered out. Then drain all the oil from the entire oil circuit; after flushing it properly, fill it with fresh oil.
