My laboratory is conducting experiments with silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives, and the resulting products are very turbid and opaque. I’m seeking advice on how to resolve this issue
There can be many reasons for the turbidity of silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives, including impurities, incomplete polymerization, and high viscosity. Here are several possible solutions: 1. Impurities: Check whether the material contains impurities such as unfiltered reagents or dust. Pure silicone materials and solvents should be used, and attention should be paid to laboratory cleanliness. 2. Incomplete polymerization: If the solid particles in the silicone rubber are too large or too numerous, it may be due to incomplete reaction polymerization. Therefore, it is recommended that you increase the reaction time or add an appropriate amount of catalyst to boost the reaction rate. 3. Excessively high viscosity: If the viscosity of the silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive is too high, some diluents can be added to thin out the adhesive ; Alternatively, adjustable silicone rubber can be used to adjust the appropriate viscosity of the silicone rubber as needed. 4. pH value: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives can be affected by the pH value during their production process; it is recommended that you check whether the pH value of the reaction meets the requirements for production. Most importantly, one must be careful when working in the laboratory, follow the safety procedures, and never discard silicone waste carelessly to avoid harming the environment. .
