Due to a job transfer, I have been assigned to the QAQC department of the EPC projects, where I am responsible for overseeing the incoming control of materials for new construction projects. I used to work in pipeline design, and when my supervisor assigned me this position, I was at a loss as to what to do. When we get to the project site and the materials and equipment arrive, what do we need to check, and how do we carry out those checks? ? ? This is what concerns me the most. The management has assigned me 4 people for now, but I think they won’t be enough during the peak period when the materials arrive. Newcomers need to pay attention to understanding the work procedures! In general terms, they include: quantity, quality, materials, and scheduling of the arrival date. Breaking it down further, the visual inspection items include variety name, grade, packaging, date of manufacture, etc. Document verification: product certification, factory inspection report, re-inspection report, manufacturer’s qualifications, approval certificates, trade licenses, etc ； Batching rules, inspection items, etc. Previously, you needed to understand the drawings thoroughly in order to ensure quality control.
If you have just been transferred to the technical management department of the warehouse, it is recommended to start with QC work, and having a technical background gives a significant advantage. Generally, quality control is divided into QA and QC. QA is responsible for developing the quality control plan, while QC is responsible for implementing the plan developed by QA. For your current work, the first thing to do is to ensure that the QA team has prepared an ITP (Inspection & Test Plan) for the inspection of materials upon arrival. You can then use this ITP to conduct technical inspections and verifications on each batch of materials, summarize and report any issues found, and let the QA team carry out root-cause analysis. After some time, once familiar with the process, one can consider making improvements to QA and gradually shift focus to it.
