The hydrogen chloride gas, a by-product of the production of potassium chloride and sulfuric acid in the factory, is absorbed by deionized water to produce hydrochloric acid. When the plant is operating continuously, the hydrochloric acid remains colorless; however, once it stops operating and is restarted, the produced hydrochloric acid is colorless and transparent, but it turns slightly red as soon as deionized water is added. I would like to ask experts what causes this phenomenon.
