Everyone: There are only specifications for downhole samplers for light oil products. Can’t downhole samplers be used for heavy oil? Are all samplers multi-point?

The sampling points include bottom samples (around 200 mm as required by the client or at the tank’s sampling outlet), lower samples (at 1/6 of the tank’s liquid level), middle samples (at 1/2 of the tank’s liquid level), upper samples (at 5/6 of the tank’s liquid level), and composite samples (a mixture of upper, middle, and lower samples).

It’s not the case that there’s no heavy oil, or what you call black oil. The sampling devices available on the market today have relatively thin pipelines, and their pneumatic or manual circulation pumps aren’t powerful enough; as a result, the oil stuck to the pipelines doesn’t circulate, which over time leads to inaccurate readings. At present, the relatively accurate sampling method is still single-point sampling by tank crawling.
