After using or storing the 10% sodium hypochlorite containers (black plastic tanks with canopies) on site for a month, it was observed that their concentration kept decreasing (reaching as low as 1%). I would appreciate any suggestions you might have
It’s mainly due to exposure to sunlight; please store it in a sealed container. Household toilet cleaner usually can be stored for a long time.
If the concentration of sodium hypochlorite in the storage tank becomes lower after one month of use/storage, it may be due to the volatilization of sodium hypochlorite. Here are some suggestions: 1. Check the sealing of the material tank: Ensure that the lid of the tank seals properly, with no air or water leakage. 2. Adjustment of storage conditions: Store the material buckets in a dry and well-ventilated area, avoiding direct sunlight exposure to reduce the evaporation of sodium hypochlorite. 3. Minimize the number of times the material tank is opened: Each time the tank is opened, some sodium hypochlorite evaporates. To reduce the likelihood of volatilization, consider transferring sodium hypochlorite to a smaller container to minimize the frequency of opening the material tank. 4. Regularly check and adjust the concentration: Test the concentration of sodium hypochlorite using test strips on a regular basis, and adjust the concentration accordingly based on the test results. If the concentration continues to drop, it is possible to consider adding an appropriate amount of sodium hypochlorite powder to restore the concentration. 5. Consider replacing the material container: If the above methods are ineffective, consider replacing the material container by choosing one with better quality and superior sealing properties, in order to reduce the likelihood of volatilization. It should be noted that sodium hypochlorite is a chemically corrosive substance, and proper safety precautions must be taken when using it to avoid direct contact with the skin and eyes. Before performing any operations, please refer to the product’s safety instructions and follow the correct procedures. .
The only way is to store it in a sealed condition; otherwise, this will happen.
