Jilin Petrochemical’s high-temperature heat pump system achieves significant energy savings 2025-12-25 On December 22, it was reported that the high-temperature heat pump system at Station 3, part of Jilin Petrochemical’s western transformation and upgrading project, has been successfully put into operation. This system supplies heated water meeting specified standards to facilities such as those producing 600,000 tons per year of styrene, as well as to the heating systems in various buildings, marking a revolutionary change in the company’s methods for winter heating and heat supply. A high-temperature heat pump is a device that uses electrical energy to drive a circulating refrigerant, thereby transferring heat from a low-temperature heat source to a high-temperature one. It offers advantages such as high efficiency and energy savings, environmental friendliness and low carbon emissions, strong adaptability, and good economic performance, making it significant for the sustainable and low-carbon development of factories. As an important supporting project for the company’s western transformation and upgrading, the company’s Thermal Plant 3 began construction in May 2024; its core equipment is high-efficiency heat pumps. The high-efficiency heat pump at the thermal power station uses the ABS circulating water from the company’s western transformation and upgrading facility as a low-temperature heat source to heat the heat tracing and heating water for facilities that produce 600,000 tons per year of styrene, etc. After heat exchange through this high-efficiency heat pump, the temperature of the heat tracing and heating water is raised to 55 to 75 degrees Celsius, meeting the heat tracing and heating requirements of these facilities. The thermal plant is equipped with a total of 7 high-energy heat pumps, 8 motorized pumps, and 3 variable-frequency make-up water pumps. Each heat pump has a designed heating capacity of 10 megawatts, and it can provide heat for heating and insulation purposes to the company’s 600,000 tons per year styrene production facility, as well as six other facilities related to the emulsion-based ABS production process, along with the associated auxiliary buildings. Compared to traditional steam tracing and heating methods, it can save nearly 27 million yuan in steam costs per heating season.
