It has been found that foaming often occurs in the packed tower, resulting in a high pressure drop across the tower. The packed tower is still far from the flooding velocity. After replacing the water, it no longer bubbles and can operate normally. What is the reason for this? Is it NaOH causing the foaming? ! Thank you. . .

Fluctuations in the liquid level indicate foaming, and the degree of foaming is determined solely by the foaming factor – the lower this factor, the more likely foaming will occur. I’m not aware of the value of the foaming factor for the fluid inside your absorption tower; you might consider using defoamers or other additives to address this issue.
Keep the solvent clean; you can try adding some antifoam agent

This is a packed tower; there’s no need to talk about a foaming factor here – the foaming factor applies only to tray towers. . .
