The company has newly installed an ethanol recovery unit that uses floating valve columns for ethanol recovery, with DCS control. Does anyone else use this type of system for ethanol recovery? What are the temperature and pressure control ranges for each column tray in your systems, and what is the acceptable temperature of the product? Thank you! The raw material used is about 70% ethanol, and the product is ethanol with a purity of over 92%.
It is a systematic process; the heating phase, the reflux phase, and the stabilization phase all have their own detailed process parameters, which cannot be explained in just a few words.
The operation parameters are those provided by the design institute for parameter handling.
The boiling point of ethanol is 78 degrees. In an ethanol distillation tower, the temperature of the liquid phase depends on the mixture present; if it’s water, the temperature is below 100 degrees, and the temperature of the gas phase should be slightly below 78 degrees, so that the product obtained through distillation is relatively pure
Specifically, it depends on the indicators you need; judgments are made through testing, and the reflux ratio is adjusted accordingly
Theoretically, ethanol and water can form an azeotrope, so it is not possible to achieve a purity of over 95%; to obtain high purity, other methods must be used
The temperature of each layer is related to the feeding position and the feeding amount; it is not universal
If the company hires a design firm to carry out the design, it is possible to consult that firm. If the equipment is provided by a supplier, you can also ask the supplier how the calculations were done
Float valve towers are generally designed by design companies, which have the relevant data
95% ethanol seems to be around 80°C, I haven’t done any lab tests for a long time and have forgotten. It depends on which layer the feed inlet is located in in order to determine the temperature of each layer; normally, the temperature inside the tower bottom should be between 90~95°C.
