There are some issues with our factory’s alkali replacement procedure; I’d like to get some guidance. Which factory has more standardized alkali replacement procedures? Please share.
The caustic scrubber for vinyl chloride; it should be similar, anyway. Our operating procedures for acetylene don’t mention changing the caustic in the neutralization tower.

It’s the alkali washing tower that contains alkali, and it’s concentrated alkali; the crystals clog the drainage pipes. I think there’s an issue with the method used to add alkali, and I’m looking for a more standardized procedure for replacing the alkali.

I’d like to refer to them. 1) When the analyzed alkali concentration is <8%, or when resistance increases due to a high content of Na2CO3, it is necessary to perform tower cleaning and add more alkali solution ; 2) At the start of tower washing, open the production water make-up valve on the alkali wash tower pipeline to supply water to the tower for washing. The waste alkali resulting from tower washing enters the alkali solution circulation tank through the valves located in the alkali washing tower and the alkali solution circulation tank; it is then discharged into the sewage tank via the drain valve at the bottom of the circulation tank. The water supply valve on the alkali solution circulation tank is opened appropriately to add water to the tank, which is subsequently pumped into the alkali washing tower for the purpose of washing both the tower and the tank (the washing time depends on the conditions on site). 3) During the tower washing process, the water supply volume to the tower can be increased as appropriate, while it is essential to maintain an appropriate level of liquid in the alkali tank to prevent the alkali pump from running dry ; 4) After the tower washing is complete, check through the viewing glass to ensure that the production water is clear and transparent; the liquid level in the alkali washing tower should be around 20%. Close the water supply valves for the production water in both the alkali washing tower and the alkali solution circulation tank. The liquid level in these tanks should be above the pump inlet, and drain the waste liquid from the alkali solution circulation tank ; 5) Notify the on-site inspector to open the valve that releases caustic solution from the concentrated caustic tank into the caustic solution circulation tank, adjust the control valves of the caustic washing tower and the caustic solution circulation tank so that the liquid level in the caustic washing tower is around 50% and the liquid level in the caustic solution circulation tank is around 65%, then close the valve that releases caustic solution. 6) After the washing of the tower and the replacement of the alkali, the concentration of the alkali solution is 5%-15% (Note: theoretically, the ratio of water to alkali should be 1:1.5, but in practice this varies depending on the conditions of production on site)

Here’s a simple method: use two alkali solution circulation tanks and alternate between them; It does not affect the alkali neutralization effect while improving work efficiency
