During sampling of the distillate tower top liquid (naphtha) from the paraffin oil hydrocracking unit, some black spots were found in the sampling bottle! After standing for 5 hours, the black spots in the sampling bottle turned into reddish-brown spots. What are these black spots? Is it ferrous sulfide? Please explain, thank you!
Since it has changed color, I suspect it’s ferrous sulfide. OP, what type of naphtha do you use for hydrogenation – is it coker naphtha?
The unit is for the hydrocracking of paraffin oil; the feedstocks should be coker wax oil, vacuum wax oil, recycle oil, and possibly a small amount of diesel
Thank you! The raw material we process is vacuum dewaxed oil! No coker wax oil! If it is ferrous sulfide, then how is ferrous sulfide formed? Is it the hydrogen sulfide at the top of the fractionation tower reacting with iron on the inner wall of the tube bundle to produce ferrous sulfide and hydrogen? And I detected 600 ppm of hydrogen at the sampler outlet! This hydrogen could have been generated as a result of the reaction, or it could be hydrogen that came from the pressure supplementation of the fuel gas at the top of the tower! This is my personal inference; based on your experience, which possibility seems more likely?
Mm-hmm, you’re right. The raw materials for our device are reduced-pressure wax oil, circulating oil, and a small amount of catalytic diesel!
