Dear sea friends, what are the reasons for the continuous failures of the gears in the cooling tower fan reducers (tooth breakage, wear, bearing failure, etc.)? Some basic information and work already carried out: The gearbox is from a well-known imported manufacturer ; Motor power: 200 kW, speed: 1500 rpm, driven by carbon fiber shaft ; Upon measurement, there is no overload condition ; There are no issues with the design, calculation, and selection. Quality issues with reducers, such as a lack of oil in the gearbox or bearings, can all lead to failure
Lack of oil, or improper oil change interval
How many such reduction gears are there on site in total? How many of them have problems, and what percentage do they account for? Check the comparison between operating conditions such as fueling and load and the design conditions.
Alignment issue? When something gets damaged, my first reaction is to check it.
The meshing clearance between the gear shaft and the gear disc was not adjusted properly, causing the tooth tips to collide, resulting in high load and shaft breakage. Adjust the shaft washer size to achieve a gear side clearance of 0.15–0.35 mm.
The lubricating oil was in good condition, and it was analyzed as scheduled; the replacement schedule might be delayed
In total, 16 sets of CWT Fans have been installed so far; 3 of them failed according to the DI tests, but the design choice was appropriate
