The exhaust gas contains chlorine, which is absorbed using NaOH solution. The packing in the absorption tower was previously made of PVC, and it corrodes and breaks down every year; we would like to change the material – is it possible to use PP packing instead? ? The concentration of NaCLO in the tower’s internal circulation spray is around 5%, with the pH maintained between 8 and 9.

PP will be more brittle; PVC-U is recommended
If a qualified manufacturer cannot be found, PVDF can also be used.
PVDF is too expensive; it’s unaffordable
Using CPVC and controlling the temperature of the alkaline solution prevents the filler from corroding or breaking.
The main thing is to keep the operating temperature from being too high; the PVC filler is fine.
Normal operating temperature range for PVC: -15~60°C. We have chosen HT-PVC, which is heat-resistant; the manufacturer states that its operating temperature range is from -15 to 90°C. If PP is used, the operating temperature range is -30~120°C. The temperature in our system can sometimes be very high, reaching 50 or 60 degrees, or even 70 degrees. Whether the temperature is high or not can be determined by the levels of chlorine and hydrogen chloride in the gas; if their concentrations are high, the exothermic reaction will be more intense.
