I’m seeking advice from all the experts out there~ At our booster station in the northwest, the counterflow cooling towers used for cooling the circulating water system are made of galvanized steel. Our company has decided that these towers should be cleaned every three years. In May of this year, we hired a cleaning company to carry out the cleaning, but they said that the scale on the copper pipes was too thick, and using low-concentration cleaning agents wouldn’t be effective; it would be necessary to apply anti-corrosion treatment to the tanks in order to use higher-concentration cleaning agents. As for anti-corrosion treatment, I consulted with both the cooling tower manufacturers and those who specialize in applying anti-corrosion coatings. The manufacturers suggested applying fiberglass coating or using fiberglass panels, but it’s not possible to stop the operation of all the cooling towers at once. As for applying anti-corrosion coatings, complete drying is required, yet our cooling towers are connected to each other, so even if one tower is stopped for coating application, water will still splash around and prevent proper drying. Currently, as temperatures rise, the cooling effect of these towers is no longer sufficient. I hope someone among you has encountered this problem before and can suggest solutions – how can we remove the scale or improve the cooling efficiency? Don’t they know that equipment needs regular maintenance? Three years is too long; generally, the water quality in the northwest is quite hard, so it’s best to carry out purification and softening treatments. Moreover, cleaning once a year seems risky – half a year is a more reliable interval; there is no other alternative.
Is it used in winter? If it’s not used in winter, I have a solution.
