A tower crane at a construction site in Handan, Hebei, collapsed, and authorities ordered a complete suspension of work for rectification. On July 23, netizens posted news about an accident involving the collapse of a tower crane at a construction site in Handan, stating that \"on the afternoon of July 22, 2019, a tower crane at an under-construction site in Yongnian, Handan, Hebei, collapsed during construction work; there were casualties, and the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation…\" In response to the issues reported in the messages, the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau and the Emergency Management Bureau of Yongnian District immediately carried out investigations. Upon verification, the incident occurred at Building B10 of the Phase II Ziyu Dongcheng project in Yongnian District. The preliminary cause of the accident was determined to be a mechanical failure in the jacking pump during the jacking operation of the tower crane, which led to the tilting of the top part of the crane and subsequent twisting and collapse of its boom. The frame of the tower crane did not collapse, and no injuries were reported. The project’s developer, constructor, and tower crane installation company all possess complete qualification documents. The District Housing and Construction Bureau has ordered the construction site to suspend all work immediately for rectification.
